Focus on 'employability' of engineering graduates

SAEIT represents the joint effort of two of the best known names in the field of engineering in India - IIT Madras and BHEL Trichy - to enhance the 'employability' of graduates in engineering by providing specialised courses designed enhance their employment prospects. SAEIT courses provide young engineers with a firm grounding in modern engineering concepts and practices that reflect the state-of-the-art in their chosen area of specialization.

Building closer ties between industry and academia
Modelled on the lines of the 'finishing schools' of advanced nations, SAEIT is a pioneering effort to channel the renowned educational skills of IIT Madras and the engineering strengths of BHEL towards grooming modern engineering professionals.
A pioneering joint venture is born
In 2001, the proposal to establish SAEIT as a joint project with IIT Madras was approved by BHEL's Board of Directors headed by the Chairman & Managing Director and a formal Memorandum of Understanding was signed between BHEL Tiruchi and IIT Madras for the setting up of the School of Advanced Engineering and Information Technology (SAEIT) within BHEL's engineering and manufacturing complex at Tiruchirappalli.
Under the guidance and with the active support of the Director of IIT Madras, SAEIT opened its doors to the first batch of students in June 2002 making it the very first joint venture educational initiative of its kind in India between an IIT and a Public Sector engineering enterprise..
Towards excellence in Engineering and Information Technology
SAEIT focuses on advanced engineering and information technology solutions for the manufacturing sector and currently offers three one-year full-time certificate programmes that are aimed at graduates in mechanical, production, aeronautical, automobile, metallurgical, civil and chemical engineering. The curriculum for each course is designed to familiarize young engineering graduates with advanced engineering concepts and their application in the development of modern engineering solutions.
IIT Madras-BHEL synergy
BHEL provides the infrastructure and administrative support while IITM is responsible for the norms and guidelines for admission of students, providing faculty support for classroom lectures, chalking out course contents and evaluating the students ensuring that the highest standards of technical education are maintained.
