What difference can a one year course make to my engineering career?
These one-year courses are designed to bridge the knowledge gap between a fresh engineering graduate and a modern engineering professional.
Besides learning to use modern engineering tools and techniques, students will also receive valuable theoretical inputs directly from IIT professors through classroom lectures aimed at imparting a sound understanding of the concepts behind modern engineering practices.
SAEIT students will also have the rare opportunity to work on real-life engineering projects under the guidance of BHEL's experienced engineers to gain expertise in problem solving and practical application of engineering concepts.
These specialised theoretical and practical skills and familiarity with high-end equipment and tools are specifically designed to help improve the 'employability' of engineering graduates and to give SAEIT students a significant advantage in the increasingly competitive job market.
How many seats are available?
The number of seats is not a constraint for each course. Applicants who are found to be eligible for admission to a course on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination, SAEIT Entrance Test marks or GATE scores and interview for each course, conducted as per the norms prescribed by IIT Madras, will be offered admission.
What about placement at the end of the course?
Although placement is NOT guaranteed by SAEIT, the school has a Placement Committee which facilitates placement interviews with leading employers.
Most of the students of the four batches of SAEIT's Computational Engineering course have been placed in leading engineering and IT companies.
How do final year engineering students calculate total percentage while applying?
Final year students should fill up the total percentage obtained in all completed semesters and exams for which marks are available except those for which results are awaited.
When and where will interviews be held for shortlisted candidates?
Interviews will be conducted at leading centres on dates to be announced on this website after applications are closed. The list of candidates shortlisted for interviews and the final selection list for each ourse will also be posted on this website.
What is the fee structure?
Though students of SAEIT have access to unique facilities and modern engineering tools, course fee has been kept to the barest minimum since SAEIT has been set up by BHEL and IIT Madras primarily for the benefit of the engineering community.
The focus is on extending to a larger cross section of engineering students the benefits of the world class technical education skills and experience of IITM's faculty and BHEL's mega project engineering expertise and skills in developing indigenous technology solutions for the core infrastructure sectors.

Course fee for the full one-year programme for each course has been fixed at Rs 60,000/- which is payable in full at the time of joining the course.

Nominal hostel fees will be chargeable extra for those who require accommodation. Mess is run by students on the dividing system using infrastructure provided by BHEL.
Course fee is payable in full at the time of admission.
Can I apply all three courses to make sure I get in for any one?

Yes you can. You have to send in the separate Application Forms for each of the three courses and along with three separate DDs for the Registration Fee of Rs 500/- for each course (3 x Rs 500/-) and appear for the Entrance Test for all three courses on July 1, 2007, at IIT Madras. The Entrance Test for each course will be conducted separately one after the other to permit candidates to appear for all three if he or she so desires.

Interviews for shortlisted candidates for each course will also be conducted separately by three different interview panels.
